run-on sentence

A run-sentence is when two independent clauses are run together without appropriate punctuation or a conjunction. Options to fix a run-on sentence: 1. add a period, 2. add a semicolon, 3. add a comma and conjunction, 4. change one phrase to a subordinate clause.

Example: RUN-ON: I love all kinds of ice cream chocolate chip is my favorite. OPTIONS TO FIX: 1. I love all kinds of ice cream. Chocolate chip is my favorite. 2. I love all kinds of ice cream; chocolate chip is my favorite. 3. I love all kinds of ice cream, but chocolate chip is my favorite. 4. I love all kinds of ice cream, although chocolate chip is my favorite.
