mechanical energy

Mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy, meaning the energy an object has due to its position and/or motion.

Example: Think about dropping a brick off a tall building (but don’t do it! It’s dangerous!). The potential energy of the brick’s height becomes kinetic energy as it falls. The total mechanical energy remains constant from top to bottom.
