Velocity is the rate at which the position of an object changes in a certain direction.

Good to know! Velocity is a vector quantity and speed is a scalar quantity. Speed refers to how fast an object is moving. Vector has to do with a position: if a person took one step forward and one step back to the original position, velocity would be zero.
