Rollout Timeline for the Enhanced ACT:

Note: Beginning in September, Science will no longer be included in the Composite Score for ALL tests digital, paper and school day.

What Does the Enhanced ACT Look Like?

Here is an overview of the ACT Changes:

  • Overall, the ACT is shorter and allows more flexibility
  • Science, like Writing, is an optional section
  • The Composite Score will be the average of the English, Reading, and Math scores (Science will no longer be included in the Composite Score for all tests beginning in September 2025)
  • If you opt to take Science, you will also receive a STEM score, which will be the average of your Math and Science scores
  • If you opt to take Writing, you will also receive an ELA score, which will be the average of your English, Reading, and Writing sections
  • Math answer choices will decrease from five to four (A-D)

But what if I’m taking the longer, old version of the ACT (School Day & District tests)?

We still got you! We’ll continue to support both old and new versions of the ACT test until the old test is fully retired in April of 2026.


Not sure which version of the ACT to select?

You are taking a School Day/District test if:
  • Your school registered and paid for the ACT
  • You are taking the ACT on day designated by your school during regular school hours
You are taking the Enhanced ACT test if:
  • You, or a parent/guardian, went onto ACT.org and registered and paid for the ACT yourself
  • You are taking the ACT at a testing center (may or may not be your school) outside typical school hours--typically on Saturday or Sunday
