Hey there, I'm Linnea, one of the ACT experts here at Magoosh. You'll be hearing from me and other Magoosh experts quite a bit as you work through our lessons. But, for right now, I just want to welcome you, give you a quick tour, and share some tips on how to make the most of your ACT prep. Let's start by introducing your dashboard. Think of it as home base.
You can see your study streak, set your test date and score goal, and check how you're doing in each section. English, math, and reading are marked core. Science is marked optional, so if you're not taking it, feel free to skip it. Each section has its own page. Just open the subjects menu.
It's usually a good idea to spend the most time on the sections you find hardest. On each subject page, you'll see three tabs. Guided Practice, Custom Practice, and Lessons. Guided Practice is where we recommend you start. Here, Lessons and Practice questions are grouped into modules, each focused on one topic.
A great habit is to finish one or two modules every time you log in. Now, let's say you'd prefer to chart your own path. To do so, click the Lessons tab. You'll see every lesson in that section grouped by topic. So if you know grammar is a weak spot, you can head straight to the grammar and usage lessons and work through just those.
Our goal was to make it easy to make the lesson videos work for you. So here are some options to customize the experience. You can speed lessons up or slow them down. Turn on captions or follow along with the transcript. As you watch, use the notes box to jot down what you learn. We'll come back to this later.
And when you're done, the Continue button takes you to the next step in the module. Quizzes and practice sets let you apply what you've learned to ACT -style questions. Do your best, but if something is tricky, that's okay. Just flag it. Now, this is probably the most important part. When you finish, you'll see your results and your pace. Go back and review anything you flagged, missed, or took too long on.
The video and text explanations show you where you went wrong. So next time you see something like it, you can answer it quickly and with confidence. And if you want a little more help, click Explain in More Depth to access our AI Tutor. And, just like you did in the lessons, write any new strategies in the notes field.
Now, should you need to pick up where you left off, just click Review at the top of any page. It keeps track of every question you've tried. For the most part, your study time will be spent in the subject pages. But every two to four weeks, take a practice test to check your progress and build your stamina. Now, remember those notes you've been taking?
Here's where we return to them. They're all collected on your notes page, so they make a great personalized study guide before each practice test. When you finish a test, you'll get a score estimate. And every question has an explanation, so you can keep learning after the timer runs out.
To see how you're doing over time, check Analytics. It tracks your estimated score and your progress toward your target. And if you want extra practice on specific topics without taking a whole test, use Custom Practice to build the quiz you want. You can even redo just the questions you missed or flagged. Last thing. If you're ever confused about a lesson, a question, or how to find something in your account, click Help at the top of any page.
